Retail Franchise: It’s A Great Time To Pick Up Bargains

Have you been considering buying a retail franchise, but now you wonder if it’s the right thing to do in today’s uncertain economic environment?  Your concern is certainly understandable.  It seems like not a day goes by any more that the TV screens and internet monitors aren’t filled with bleak economic news.  Many experts say that we’re approaching an era of little growth that will rival the recession of the mid to late 1970s.  Others hint at darker things, talking of comparisons to the Great Depression of the 1930s (although almost all experts dismiss that possibility).  Still, though, there’s no denying that buying a retail franchise in this economy will be a bigger risk than it would’ve been 10 years ago.  But, it actually might be a great time to pick up a retail franchise.

I’m sure you’ve heard of Warren Buffett.  He’s one of the richest men in the world, and he’s also considered one of the savviest business minds on the planet.  He’s worth billions and billions of dollars, and unlike Bill Gates, he didn’t make his money by comeing up with an earth shattering invention that people just had to have.  You know how he made his money?  He did it by buying companies and stocks when no one else wanted them.  When people were afraid to buy, because the market was all wrong, or the economy was in good enough shape.  And he said in October of 2008 that he’s getting ready to go on a buying spree.  Here’s what he told one news outfit:

“A simple rule dictates my buying,” … “Be fearful when others are greedy, and be greedy when others are fearful.”

Does this mean that you should rush out and buy yourself a retial franchise?  No, not at all,  But it does mean that you shouldn’t necessarily be afraid to buy because of the economy.  Right now, most people are afraid to buy, and many retail franchise owners are eager to sell, because they’re afraid.    Which means it’s a buyers market, and you can drive an excellent bargain.  Yes, the economy will be challenging for the next few years, but if you can get a fantastic price on a retail franchise, it could be one of the best investments you ever make.
